Abstract:
Cassia occidentalis Linn (Caesalpiniaceae), a perennial plant of Palakkad, Southern India, is an ayurvedic plant with huge medical importance. The ethanol and water extracts of Cassia occidentalis leaves were screened for antinociceptive activity using acetic acid induced writhing test, hot plate test and tail immersion test in mice. In a similar way a screening exercise was carried out to determine the antipyretic potential of the extract using yeast induced pyrexia method in rats. The results of the statistical analysis showed that ethanol and water extracts of Secamone emetica had significant (p<0.01) dose dependent antinociceptive and antipyretic properties at 150 and 300 mg/kg. ). The inhibition produced by the highest dose (300 mg/kg) of the extracts was significantly (P90.01) lower than that by acetylsalicylic acid (100 mg/kg). Both the ethanolic and water extracts of Cassia occidentalis showed significant (P90.01) effect on pyrexia induced by yeast. Hence present investigation reveals the antinociceptive and antipyretic activities of the ethanolic and water extracts of the leaves of Cassia occidentalis. This seems to provide a rationale for the use of this plant in pain and inflammatory disorders.

Abstrak:
Cassia occidentalis Linn (Caesalpiniaceae), tanaman abadi Palakkad, India Selatan, adalah tanaman ayurveda dengan kepentingan medis yang sangat besar. Ekstrak etanol dan air daun Cassia occidentalis disaring untuk aktivitas antinociceptive menggunakan asam asetat diinduksi menggeliat tes, piring uji panas dan uji perendaman dalam ekor tikus. Dalam cara yang sama latihan skrining dilakukan untuk menentukan potensi antipiretik dari ekstrak menggunakan ragi diinduksi pada tikus metode pireksia. Hasil analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa etanol dan ekstrak air Secamone emetica telah signifikan (p <0,01) antinociceptive tergantung dosis dan sifat antipiretik pada 150 dan 300 mg / kg. ). Penghambatan yang dihasilkan oleh dosis tertinggi (300 mg / kg) dari ekstrak secara signifikan (P90.01) lebih rendah dibanding oleh asam asetilsalisilat (100 mg / kg). Baik ekstrak etanolik dan air Cassia occidentalis menunjukkan signifikan (P90.01) efek pada demam yang disebabkan oleh ragi. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini mengungkapkan kegiatan antinociceptive dan antipiretik dari ekstrak etanol dan air daun Cassia occidentalis. Hal ini tampaknya untuk memberikan alasan untuk penggunaan tanaman ini di rasa sakit dan gangguan inflamasi.
